The ESD 105 Safe and Drug-Free Schools program is focused on promoting strong learning environments by developing and maintaining safe, civil, and drug-free schools through preventive education, appropriate intervention strategies, and assistance with crisis response and recovery.


Our services provide:

Training and consultation with bullying/harassment prevention and intervention
Training and consultation with behavior management/discipline
Violence prevention curriculum training
Consultation in development of comprehensive guidance and counseling programs emphasizing the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model
Student motivation curriculum training
Crisis management training and assistance with crisis response and recovery
Collaborations with other prevention/intervention services and programs to develop school-wide alcohol, tobacco, and drug prevention and intervention programs
Sponsorship of Drug and Alcohol Awareness Month materials and activities


Our program's goals:

Prevent violence in and around schools
Strengthen programs that prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
Involve parents, local community agencies, and federal and state resources

Our Learning Support Department offers books, tapes, and kits on Substance Abuse Prevention, Safe Schools, Community Mobilization, and Parent/Community Education.  Contact Erin Balch at (509) 454-5304.

While many of these areas are still pertinent, the funding for the Safe and Drug Free Program/Grant has ended.
