Alternative Route to Teacher Certification

Alternative Route fact sheet
The Alternative Route Teacher Preparation Consortia provides a way to obtain teaching credentials for persons who already have a 4-year degree and some work experience. This program is designed to prepare teachers in subject- and geographic-shortage areas to take jobs where they currently live. This scholarship/loan program can provide a teaching certificate in approximately one year after completing course study and a full-time classroom internship.

Application deadline for the 2010-2011 session is April 9, 2010.

An anticipated 15 to 30 people will be accepted into the program each year. Credits are earned through Central Washington University, Pacific Lutheran University, Heritage University, and Western Washington University.

Teachers are needed in the following subject areas: special education, general science, middle school mathematics, middle school science, chemistry, physics, biology, instrumental music, early childhood special education, choral music, English as a second language, bilingual, and Japanese.
