Community Mobilization


Community Mobilization
organizes Yakima County communities to address the problems of substance abuse, violence, and gangs. Our programs assist community members to create and sustain healthy, safe, and economically viable communities free from alcohol, tobacco, other drug abuse, and violence.


Community Mobilization provides:

School-Community Partnerships fact sheet
Community coalitions with risk and protective factor assessments utilizing "Communities That Care Risk/Protective Factor Training"
Assistance to coalitions to implement youth development initiatives that result in developmental assets.
Assistance to coalitions to develop mission/vision statements and to define purpose through SMART goal setting.
Assistance to coalition teams to establish meeting rules of order, setting agendas, development logic models, and bringing information back to communities and school districts
Assistance to coalitions in establishing Meth Action neighborhood watch teams and gang prevention watches
Mentoring training to coalitions
Training to parents to increase involvement in coalitions through various parenting programs, such as "Strengthening Families"


Our goals:

Increase capacity of each community to reduce violence and the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs among youth by:
Increasing community readiness to address alcohol, tobacco and other drug use and abuse issues in youth
Increasing opportunities and rewards for family pro-social involvement
Decreasing the 30-day use rate for youth of alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana
Reducing youth membership in gangs as measured by the Healthy Youth Survey
