School Safety and Security

ESD 105 provides basic statewide training for school administrators and school security officers to help schools establish safe, disciplined, and drug-free environments.  This is a cooperative effort with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission designed to help school districts build capacity for developing and fully implementing school security programs.

Services include:
Training, planning and implementation for school security programs and officers
Technical assistance for policy development for school security programs and officers, including job descriptions
Assessments to determine additional training needs for school safety and security programs
Technical assistance for the establishment of threat and vulnerability assessment

Emergency Response and Crisis Management

We are available to help the ability of all staff members and students at schools to appropriately respond to crises, and we assist schools in improving and strengthening their comprehensive safe schools plan based upon prevention/mitigation, intervention, all-hazards crisis response, and recovery.

Services include:
• Site, safety, and security assessments
Prevention and intervention assessment services
Crisis management/response team training
Crisis training for teachers and counselors
Crisis counseling and trauma debrief services
Policy and procedure compliance review

Our goals:
• Involve community partners to help build capacity for schools to adequately respond to crises
• Provide improved responsive services to schools
• Help schools stay in compliance with federal and state mandates for safety and security
