Mathematics services at ESD 105 focus on strengthening the instructional core. We believe that the most powerful professional development happens in the classroom, embedded in the work of the teacher. We help teachers build and expand their skills and develop new methods of instructing students, assessing student learning and using data to design and implement powerful learning programs. We promote the use of professional learning communities and have the skill and experience to facilitate these groups.

Mathematics Professional Development:
• First Steps in Mathematics — A research-based diagnostic tool combined with learning activities to further students' conceptual growth, First Steps gives teachers a framework to help identify individual student understandings and to hone skills in making accurate judgments and decisions about student learning.
• Developing Mathematical Ideas (DMI) — DMI helps teachers think through the major ideas of K-7 math and examine how children learn them. Five modules focus on concepts on numbers and operations, geometry, and working with data.
• Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) — CGI focuses on how students’ thinking and understanding evolves through intentional experiences in the classroom.
• Mathematics Coaching Cadre and Teacher Leadership Group — Math coaches and teacher leaders from around the region learn from each other and share experiences in a job alike forum.
Math Resources:
• Mathematics Transition Documents — Download documents from sources throughout the state designed to help with the transition from Grade Level Expectations to the Performance expectations in the Washington State Mathematics Standards.
• Recruiting Washington Teachers newsletters — September 2009, November 2009
