Teacher Induction
ESD 105 supports new and upcoming teachers through the projects listed below. We are also available to contract with you to either run a quality teacher induction program or help you to design a custom program for your district.
Recruiting
We are in our third year of funding from the Washington Public Educators Standards Board. Our original cohort consisted of 20 students, nine of whom were seniors last year and have graduated ffrom high school. All nine of these students were accepted into the college of their choice.
ProTeach Support - Cohort
Cohort 1 started December of 2009 with 20 teachers. They are on track to complete the Proteach Portfolio Assessment in January of 2011.
If you hold a residency certificate and have a minimum of 2 years of experience, now is the time to start preparing for the assessment. We will be starting a second cohort in the fall. More information will be upcoming.
Mentor Roundtable
Upcoming meetings are scheduled forFebruary 25, March 25 and May 27, 2010. All mentors are welcome. There is no cost.
The most critical attributes of mentors include:
• Exemplary teachers
• Articulate about effective instruction
• Good with adult learners
• Knowledgeable about and supportive of education reform in Washington state

ESD 105 Teacher Induction
Educational Service District 105 provides training to mentor/teacher teams at the beginning of each school year. Districts interested in this program should let us know by August of each year. It may be possible for us to schedule this training on site.
Mentors receive 6 hours of mentor training, which involves:
• A needs assessment to provide a starting point for skill development as a mentor
• Familiarity with mentor responsibilities and OSPI requirements
• Successful mentoring strategies
• Observation and feedback
• Collegial coaching
The mentor and the beginning teacher team receive approximately 10-12 hours of training, which involves:
• A needs assessment that both team members will complete to provide a starting point for their focus on professional development
• Update on Washington Education Reform
• Skill building: working on different classroom delivery systems for instruction, as well as classroom management techniques and assessment tools
• Team planning time
• Mixed district cohorts offer the opportunity to network with teams from other schools to exchange ideas, common challenges
