ArtFusion
In the spirit of using art as a means of enhancing learning and teaching, the ESD 105 ArtFusion program offers a variety of opportunities for students and teachers to experience art. This collaboration between area arts organizations and participating educators in our Regional Arts Leadership Cadre is designed to enhance existing school arts programs, expand students' exposure to the arts, and to help teachers meet the state-mandated requirements for music, theatre, dance, and visual arts.

“Involvement in the arts has been shown to impact student academic achievement because the arts require higher level thinking skills. So, art supports achievement across the curriculum.”
– Aurelio Garcia, ESD 105 Regional Arts Education coordinator.
ESD 105 student arts programs:
• Regional High School Art Show: Creations from area high schools are featured in this unique opportunity for students to show their art in a gallery setting. Our 36th annual show was held March 1-15, 2009, at the Allied Arts Peggy Lewis Gallery. Registration forms were due from teachers by Feb. 18, and all art had to be delivered to Allied Arts by March 4. Find full information about our 2009 show here. You can also view entries from our most recent shows at the ArtFusion student art gallery.
• Yakima Symphony Orchestra Student Concert and Ensemble visits: YSO's annual concert for 4th and 5th grade students was held on Friday, May 8, 2009. Information will be mailed to superintendents, principals, and music teachers. Additionally, smaller groups from the YSO Ensembles visit selected elementary schools in our region to perform for students and provide them instruction about the types of instruments used in an orchestra.
• Central Washington State Fair Student Art Exhibit: ESD 105 regularly coordinates the display of K-12 artwork from throughout 12 Yakima County school districts for this annual fall event at the Yakima Fairgrounds. More than 1,000 student entries were shown during the 2008 fair that was held September 26-October 5. The 2009 fair and student art exhibit will be held Sept. 25-Oct. 4.
• Poetry Out Loud: First offered to Yakima County high schools in 2008, ESD 105 helps sponsor sponsor for this activity that brings the dynamics of spoken word and theater into English classrooms. Poetry Out Loud is a program of the Washington State Arts Commission, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation. The regional competition is held in early spring, followed by state and national events throughout the end of the school year.
