Volunteer Panel Judges

Each year Washington State has the honor of recognizing one classified school employee and one teacher with WA Educator of the Year Awards. These awards recognize excellence in education and celebrate the impact that our school employees have on the future of the communities that they serve.

Panel judges help us select our Regional Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year winners. This is a wonderful opportunity to help recognize excellence in our school communities!

Panel Judge Commitments:

  • From our list of interested judges, we will convene two separate panels. One panel will select our Regional Teacher of the Year. The second panel will select our Regional Classified Employee of the Year.

  • Panel judges will receive an email with a folder containing all of the completed nomination packets for the candidates in their award category by Monday, May 6, 2024. Judges will then review these using a supplied rubric. Scores from judges will be used to determine our top three candidates in each category.

  • Panel judges will convene in-person (dates TBD) to interview the top three candidates in their category. During this convening, judges serving for our Teacher of the Year category will also watch a video demonstration of our candidates' teaching a lesson. During this in-person meeting, our Regional winners will be selected. On average, judges should anticipate a meeting that is approximately 2-3 hours long for our Regional Classified Employee of the Year and 3-4 hours long for our Regional Teacher of the Year.

  • Panel judges are invited to join us for the announcement of our winners in their home district.
