Are you curious about introducing students to coding and Computer Science in a fun and manageable way in just 1 hour? Do you need help planning a classroom lesson, a PD for teachers, or a STEM themed event for students and families? Or maybe you're interested in exploring coding but aren't quite ready to bring it to your classroom just yet? This course might be of interest to you!

This fully online, asynchronous professional learning opportunity will introduce you to free coding resources and guide you in developing ready to implement a 1-hour coding activity for students, families, and/or teachers. Whether you're ready to launch an activity with students who are just beginning to explore, the course offers a step-by-step process to learn and design an activity with practical strategies.

Designed for both beginners and those with prior experience, this course features a range of Hour of Code® resources from Code.org—including unplugged activities, device-based coding, and AI-themed lessons—helping you refresh or revise your approach to Computer Science instruction.

These courses are suitable for all grade levels, for all levels of experience in teaching Educational Technology, Computer Science, STEM, or STEAM, Participants will gain practical knowledge and approachable ways to introduce the concepts into their classrooms. Edison robot - Getting Acquainted with the Edison Robot (online) July - Aug 2025

This course will help you become acquainted with the Edison robot, an educational robot. Review the available tutorials, teaching resources, and student activities to learn about the programming options of barcodes, block coding, Scratch-based, and Python. At the end of the course, you'll identify an idea you could incorporate into your classroom.

Makey Makey: Getting Acquainted with the Makey Makey (online) July - Aug 2025

This course will help you become acquainted with Makey Makey, an innovative invention kit that provides hands-on learning experiences by turning everyday objects like Play-Doh and bananas into touchpads! You’ll learn about various plug-and-play apps, from checking for conductivity to playing the bongos and piano to using Scratch coding to program a paper guitar. At the end of the course, you'll identify an idea you could incorporate into your classroom.

micro:bit - Getting Acquainted with the micro:bit (online) July - Aug 2025

This course will help you become acquainted with micro:bit, a versatile microcontroller that offers hands-on learning by making coding accessible and fun! You’ll learn how the micro:bit can be programmed for various interactive projects, from simple tasks to using its built-in sensors. Review the project library by subjects, topics, features, and experience level to explore the available tutorials for learning how “MakeCode” is used to program the micro:bit. At the end of the course, you'll identify an idea you could incorporate into your classroom.

Ozobot: Getting Acquainted with the Ozobot (online) July - Aug 2025

This course will help you become acquainted with the Ozobot, a small robot that provides a hands-on approach to teaching programming and robotics through dual coding options using color-coded markers and block-based coding. After becoming acquainted with the Ozobot and the available library of lessons, participants will identify an idea for incorporating Ozobots into their classroom to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students.

Sphero indi - Getting Acquainted with the Sphero indi (online) July - Aug 2025

This course will help you become acquainted with the Sphero indi, an intuitive and engaging robotic platform designed to make coding accessible and fun for young learners! You’ll explore how Sphero indi can be programmed "screenless" using its color-coded tiles to perform various tasks, encouraging creativity and problem-solving. Review the project library by subjects, topics, and features to discover tutorials and activities for learning how to integrate Sphero indi into your lessons. By the end of the course, you'll identify ways to incorporate this bot into your classroom.

Sphero Bolt - Getting Acquainted with the Sphero Bolt (online) July - Aug 2025

This course will help you become acquainted with the Sphero BOLT, a versatile, app-enabled robot that offers a hands-on approach to teaching programming, engineering, and robotics. Through block-based and JavaScript coding options, Sphero BOLT engages students in interactive learning experiences that promote creativity and collaboration. After exploring the features of Sphero BOLT and online resources, participants will identify ways to incorporate the robot into their classroom to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and STEM skills.

Description: Curious about how generative AI can support your work in education? This introductory, asynchronous course is designed to help educators build foundational knowledge about generative AI and its role in education today. Participants will explore commonly used AI tools, learn how to avoid common pitfalls, and discover practical strategies to enhance educator efficiency and expand student access to learning materials. The course emphasizes hands-on learning, allowing participants to choose an AI tool and apply their learning by creating a resource or product they can immediately use in their current role.

Please note: This course does not include in-depth discussion of school or district AI policy, nor does it cover student use of AI tools.

Format & Completion: This self-paced course takes place in the Canvas Learning Management System. Participants must complete all modules by September 15, 2025 to be eligible for clock hours.
