Paraeducator Certificate Program
Overview
ESD 105 partners with districts to provide high-quality, state-aligned professional learning for paraeducators. Our training options are designed to support districts in meeting state requirements, strengthening instructional practice, and building sustainable workforce pathways.
We offer flexible, district-responsive training models that align with the Washington Professional Educator Standards Board Paraeducator Standards and the Fundamental Course of Study (FCS) requirements.
How to meet paraeducator minimum employment requirementsIn Washington state, districts are required to provide 28 hours (4 days) of the Fundamental Course of Study (FCS) to new paraeducators, with 7 hours in-person, plus ongoing training for the General Paraeducator Certificate (70 hours).
- Districts must ensure compliance with state-mandated training, which focuses on standards of practice and is funded by the legislature. Learn more about district implementation.
It is the responsibility of the school district to provide the FCS and general certificate training to their paraeducators. Paraeducators should not independently seek out training to meet training requirements.
- If paraeducators are unaware of training, please contact the human resource office of your school district.
