January is School Board Recognition Month

January is School Board Recognition Month in Washington.  The statewide annual observance was initiated by the National School Boards Association in 1995.

The Washington State School Directors’ Association, the Association of Educational Service Districts, and our state's education community support School Board Recognition Month in honoring the elected volunteers who serve on Washington’s 295 school districts and nine elected educational service district boards.  Nearly 1,500 people from throughout our state serve on Washington's 295 public school boards.  Collectively, Washington’s school directors govern districts serving 1.1 million students, with a combined annual budget of approximately $15 billion, employing about 120,000 people.

The Washington State School Directors' Association offers School Board Recognition Month resources, including a customizable certificate to present to your school board members, and images for Facebook and Twitter postings.
