Community Coalitions

The Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI) is a statewide effort funded by the Washington State Healthcare Authority, designed to prevent underage substance use and promote wellness through community-driven strategies. CPWI programs are built on the foundation of collaboration between local communities, schools, public health agencies, and other stakeholders to create sustainable, evidence-based prevention initiatives.

Each CPWI coalition is composed of community members, including parents, educators, youth, law enforcement, and healthcare professionals, who work together to assess local needs, develop strategic plans, and implement interventions tailored to their specific community. These coalitions use data-driven approaches to identify risk factors and promote protective factors that support youth and families.

ESD 105 plays a critical role in this initiative by serving as the fiscal agent for several CPWI coalitions within the ESD 105 region. As a fiscal agent, ESD 105 manages the financial aspects of the program, ensuring that funds are allocated appropriately and used effectively to achieve the coalition’s goals. Our involvement also includes providing technical assistance, training, and support to the coalitions to enhance their capacity for sustainable community change.

Through these partnerships, CPWI coalitions in our region are making a measurable impact by reducing underage drinking, drug use, and other risky behaviors while promoting a healthier, safer environment for all.
